This charming, French silver compact box pendant was made circa 1900. It bears a boar’s head hallmark for 800-900 quality silver.
It measures 1 and 3/8” (3.5cms) across the base and is 10 mms deep . It weighs 16.9 grams.
On the lid is an exquisite, repoussé image, In a swirling, leafy frame and is a shepherdess being courted by a gentleman in eighteenth century dress.
There is a small ring at the top, marked with a boar’s head, to which a bail is attached for use as a pendant.
The compact opens easily from the front. Inside is a perfectly preserved mirror, surrounded by gold cording. The interior has a very light gold wash. On the inside rim is the French boar’s head hallmark. It snaps shut.
The reverse is plain silver and bears a maker’s mark.
It is good to find one of these in such a wonderful design and in such fine condition. It will arrive carefully presented in a gift box.
