This charming love token is dated for 1911 in the reign of George V of Great Britain, During the nineteenth and early twentieth century small coins were made into love tokens or charms. This ios a gilded threepenny bit which until 1919 were made of sterling silver. They were often set with pastes as is this one.
It measures 5/8” (1.6cms) across and weighs 1.6 grams.
The head of George V appears on the front with an inscription in Latin describing him as King of Great Britain and Emperor of India. It is set with a twinkling pale green paste.
On the reverse is a ‘3’ surmounted with a crow. The date 1911 is present as well as a garland of oak leaves.
At the top is a ring and a bail.
This delightful charm is in fine antique condition and will arrive in a gift box.
