Here is a delicate, gold filled, double sided pendant and chain from France. The pendant is marked ‘Fix’, a company founded in 1823 with a secret formula for this type of 18 carat gold filled jewellery. I am dating it to circa 1910.
The French are very familiar with the concept of elegant gold filled jewellery so thick that there are never signs of wear. The designs and quality are generally so good that they are hard to tell from their solid gold counterparts.
The mark Bijoux Fix was created in 1828 and initially items were marked Titre Fixe and then just Fix.
The accompanying chain is marked for Murat. This is another old established company. The chain measures 17” (44cms) long and closes with a ring clasp.
The pendant measures 15/16” (2.3cms) across.
On the front is a raised image of a pretty basket of flowers suspended by a ribbon,
On the reverse is another delightful image of an arrow and quiver with flowers. At the base is the mark ‘Fix ‘ in a rectangle and there is a maker’s mark.
At the top a ring set into the bow and the ribbons furl out on either side.
This exquisite pendant is in excellent antique condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
