This most attractive, antique box bears Dutch hallmarks for sterling silver. It also bears the date 1881.

It is 2” (5cms) tall and 1 and 1/16” (2.8cms) across the base. It weighs 21.6 grams.

The sides are chased with delicate flowers and leaves. The top is set high and has a square motif with engraved leaves in the quadrants. Around it the edges are curved and finished with a fine zig zag design.

The top pulls open to reveal an empty interior.

On the front is the Dutch helmeted man and alongside him is a serial number.

On the base is the horse mark with a ‘1’ which indicates sterling silver. By this is a maker’s mark which I cannot identify. Also present is the date ‘1881’ and the initials ‘H. R. O. ‘.

In fine antique condition , this delightful and very collectable box will arrive carefully presented.
