This delightful , French coin purse was originally bought as a souvenir of Malo Les Bains, a resort in northern France near to Dunkirk. It is cased with of mother of pearl . I am dating this piece to the 1920's.
It measures 2 and 5/8” (6.5cms) by 1 and 15/16” (5cms) and weighs 50 grams.
The rectangular panels of mother of pearl are gently curved. They have wonderful silvery reflections. On one side is a faint inscription of ‘Malo Les Bains’.
The purse opens easily from its metal top. It is lined in vibrant orange linen. There are three visible compartments and another with a closure , possibly to keep safe a ticket. It closes firmly with a click.
This charming piece is in excellent condition and will arrive carefully protected in a gift box.
