This most fascinating and most attractive locket is unmarked but tests to sterling silver.
It measures 2” (5cms) long, including the bail, by 1¼” (3.2cms) across. It weighs 13.7 grams.
A central oval is deeply sculpted with a design from the aesthetic period of Victorian design. A crane wading through water takes an eel in his mouth as it emerges from the reeds. The detail is superb. The edge is indented and finished with silver balls.
At the top is a ring and a substantial bail.
The locket opens via a groove on the right hand side. The interior is lined with purple fabric. The rims and covers are intact. The locket closes firmly. The back is perfectly plain and gently rounded.
In excellent antique condition , this most attractive and unusual locket will arrive in a gift box.
