This superb pendant/pin dates to the Art Deco period. It is unmarked but the base tests to 800-900 silver quality. It is mounted on black onyx and adorned with natural turquoise and marcasites. I believe that it is French in origin.
It measures 1 and 11/16” (4.3cms) long, including the bail, by 1 and 1/16” (2.7cms) across. It weighs 11.3 grams.
In the centre is a raised, octagonal frame inlaid with black onyx. In the centre, also raised, is a motif which carries an oval turquoise with tiny turquoise on either side and delicately set marcasites. The outer frame is exquisitely embellished with alternating turquoise and trios of marcasites.
At the top is a marcasite set bail for a chain. It folds down on its hinge when the piece is being used as a pin.
The reverse is smoothly finished and equipped with a trombone style pin which functions correctly.
This rare and stunningly beautiful piece is in excellent vintage condition and will arrive in a gift box.
