This outstandingly beautiful, Victorian sterling silver locket is unmarked, as many were, but tests as sterling silver. It is double sided and the front is embellished with 9 carat gold overlaid flowers and leaves.
The locket is of medium size measuring 2 and 1/8” (5.3cms), long, including the bail, by 1 and 3/16” (3cms) across the centre. It weighs 12.3 grams.
The locket front is lavishly embellished with a raised, rose gold appliqué flowers , yellow gold leaves and delicate engraved detail.
There is a small ring at the top to which is attached a substantial bail to hold a chain.
On the back is a very intricate , engraved design of roses and leaves. There is a lovely fern leaf on the left. At the base is the name ‘Lizzie’. A jeweller could remove this and engrave a different name. However, I think it would be rather nice to maintain this link to the original owner.
The locket opens easily by means of a small indentation at the side. The rims and covers are intact. The interior is lined with white, ribbed silk. The locket closes with a gentle click.
This exquisite, Victorian locket will suit a smaller lady who would not wish to be overpowered by a larger locket. There are no dents or dings. It is just lovely! It will arrive in a gift box.
