This quite exceptional , French Art Nouveau perfume bottle bears hallmarks for 800-900 silver quality. The maker’s mark is for the quality silversmith, Prudent Quitte.
It measures 2¼” (5.5cms) long by 1” (2.5cms) across the widest part. It weighs 13.1 grams.
The delightfully shaped bottle bears a beautiful repoussé design on each side. There is a group of delicate carnations with long and elegant leaves. At the base is a final flourish with a tiny bud.
The stopper at the top has a pretty frilled design. It opens on its hinge to reveal an empty interior. Around the edge is a diamond shaped maker’s mark and two boar’s heads, French hallmarks for 800-900 silver quality. It closes firmly with a click and there is a ring at the back. This would have been attached to a chatelaine belt but these days could be slipped into a purse or worn as a pendant.
Apart from a barely noticeable ding on the top of the lid, this most lovely and rare piece is in excellent antique condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
