This charming leather double card case is from the late Victorian period. It has delicate, floral embroidery.
The exterior of the case measures 3 and 15/16” (10cms) across by 2 and 13/16” (7.3cms).
The case has a black leather cover and a brass frame. There is a clip which opens the case to reveal a tan leather interior. On the left side is a flap embroidered with an exquisite spray of flowers – white and pink with glittery centres and green leaves. On the other side is a grosgrain lined flap which could be doubled over to create an envelope. It bears an inscription from the original donor. Maybe this section was for stamps. The brass frames have fine engravings. The case closes firmly with a snap.
As to condition , the black leather exterior inevitably shows some signs of age but would probably polish up well. The interior is in very good condition but could do with a little cleaning too.
This very unusual and quite useful case will arrive in a gift box.
