This very pretty , French silver and marcasite pin is ornamented with a lovely amethyst paste. I believe that it dates to circa 1900-1910.
It measures 1 and 11/16” (4.3cms) by 13/16” (2cms). It weighs 9.4 grams.
This delicately shaped pin is absolutely typical of the Edwardian period. At the centre is a fine rectangular cut paste which you would be hard to distinguish from a genuine amethyst. It is bezel set and open backed in a pierced surround with finely engraved scrolls. The outer area is set with glittering marcasites with pairs of plain silver, curved bands at the four corners.
The back is smoothly finished and there is a typically French trombone clasp. Beneath the clasp is a mark which looks like the crab mark for 800-900 silver. To be quite sure I have also tested it to this quality of silver.
In excellent antique condition, this charming pin will arrive in a gift box.
