This lovely Victorian silver Christening mug or tankard bears full English hallmarks for the year 1871.
It is 3 and 1/16” (7.7cms) tall and 2 and 11/16” (6.9cms) across the base. It weighs 135.1 grams.
Around the sides is exquisitely designed engraving of ferns and leaves. There is a space in the centre for personalisation. There is delicate beading around the rim and base. There is a sturdy, plain silver handle. The interior is gold washed.
Below the rim are the English hallmarks. These are the maker’s mark ‘HA’ for Atkin Brothers, first registered in 1853, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter ‘D’ for 1871, the lion passant for sterling silver and finally the head of Queen Victoria.
This very fine piece is in truly excellent antique condition, will arrive carefully presented in a gift box.
