This exquisite, gold filled, Art Nouveau pin comes from France. It is marked ‘Fix’, a company founded in 1823 with a secret formula for this type of 18 carat gold filled jewellery.
The French are very familiar with the concept of elegant gold filled jewellery so thick that there are hardly ever signs of wear. The designs and quality are generally so good that they are hard to tell from their solid gold counterparts.
The pierced pin measures 1 and 3/8” (3.6cms) across and 5/16” (0.8cms) wide. It weighs 2.4grams.
The pin has three intersecting, engraved ovals. Within them are delicate sprigs of mistletoe with genuine seed pearl berries.
The mistletoe was a plant much favoured by artists during the Art Nouveau period and signified life and fertility.
The back is marked ‘FIX’. The old style c clip also bears the maker’s mark.
This delightful pin in glowing gold fill is in excellent antique condition. It comes to you tissue wrapped in a gift box.
