This stunning ‘Jugendstil’ pendant is marked for 800 quality silver. It incorporates a magnificent carnelian agate and mabe or blister pearls. I am dating it to circa 1900 – 1910.
Jugendstil or ‘Young Style’ was the fusion of Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts styles. This pendant is an excellent example of the beauty of this movement.
It measures 2 and 9/16” (6.5cms) long, including the ring, and 1and 5/8 ” (4.3cms) across the widest part. It weighs 11.5 grams.
Right at the top is a delicate lily flower. This hides the loop for a chain. From this falls the exquisitely curved pendant. In the centre is a lovely, oval carnelian agate. On either side are wonderfully sculpted roses with their leaves. Swirling acanthus leaves at the base envelop the lustrous, round pearl with corded surround The pendant is finished with a lily flower drop which matches the top and another lovely blister pearl.
The back is plain silver with the open backed carnelian. It is inscribed ‘800’.
This outstandingly beautiful pendant is in excellent antique condition and will arrive carefully presented in a gift box.
