This delightful French silver pin is of a crane in flight. It dates to the Art Nouveau period circa 1900 - 1910. Throughout Asia, the crane is a symbol of happiness and eternal youth.
The pin measures 2 and 1/8” (5.4cms) by 1 and 3/16” (3cms) across the end. It weighs a substantial 7.8 grams.
This crane is exquisitely sculpted and engraved. I love the way the wings are so dimensional. The crane is apparently one of the few birds which flies with neck outstretched.
On the back is an old style c clip which bears the boar’s head hallmark for 800-900 silver . The back is finished with light texturing.
This charming pin is in excellent, antique condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
