This delightful , Art Nouveau medallion is dated 1910. I believe it was created to promote a magazine or maybe it was a gift to subscribers. It is made of gold plated metal with enamel and would make a lovely pendant.
It ,measures 1½” (4cms) long, including the top ring, by 1¼” (3cms) across the base. It weighs 9.7 grams.
Its shape is typically Art Nouveau. On the front is a raised, exquisitely enamelled purple iris with green leaves.. There are some intertwined initials B and V. At the base is the maker’s signature ‘ Fonson & C o’. This is a Belgian company especially noted for its World War 1 medals.
At the top is a ring and a bail.
The reverse is also interesting with a raised church spire. At the top is the date ‘1910’ and the in French reference to The magazine for schools of commerce.
This delightful piece is in fine antique condition. Wear it or collect it it is bound to give pleasure. It will arrive in a gift box.
