This delightful beaded purse came to me from France but inside is a tag on which is printed ’Made in Czechoslovakia’. I believe it is from the early 20th century, although Victorian in style.
The purse measures 7½” (19.5cms) long by 4 and 7/8” (12.5cms) across the top. It is heavy at 131.9 grams.
The purse is heavily beaded with pearlescent, cream glass beads arranged in a diamond pattern. Around the edge and in two bands across are tiny shining dark beads. They are overlaying the finely ribbed. cream silk lining. There is a pretty motif at the base composed of both cream and dark beads.
There is a draw string at the top finished with beaded balls. I have left it knotted as I found it.
All the beads are in place and the only fault I could find is a little fraying of the cord. However it is still well attached to the beaded ball.
This charming purse will arrive carefully presented and protected.
