This beautiful English Edwardian bangle is made of 9 carat gold with ruby pastes and genuine diamonds. It is fully hallmarked for the year 1905.
The bangle is hinged and measures 2 and 3/16" (5.5cms) across the widest part of the space. It is ½" (1.3cms) wide at the front and weighs 8 grams. It fits my 6½" wrist a touch too snugly so it would best suit a slightly slimmer wrist.
The bangle has a decorative section at the front , delicately pierced on the edges. It has incised star shapes with alternating ruby pastes and tiny diamonds. The edges are delicately scalloped and the sides are finished with a gold ball and a curlicue. On either side and at the back double, line engraved bands are joined with tiny gold balls.
The hinge operates smoothly and there is a safety chain.
Inside are full English hallmarks - 375 for 9 carat gold, the three sheaves of wheat for the Chester assay office and the date letter `E' for 1905. The date mark is a little unclear but I went for the later one rather than the earlier possibility. Also present is the maker's signature `D&Co' for Edward Durban & Co of Birmingham.
This lovely bangle is in excellent antique condition. It will arrive in its original leather box as pictured. Inside it is marked in gold lettering ` William Crow Watchmaker & Jeweller'' at his address in Stratford East London, the site of the Olympic Games.
