This most charming French, antique silver pendant/mirror slide is from the Art Nouveau period circa 1900. It could have been worn on a chain by a young lady at a ball. She would have slid the top sideways to reveal the mirror within and her own pretty image. Alternatively it could have been worn on her chatelaine belt by the gracious mistress of the house.
It measures 2 ¼" (5.6cms) long including the ring, by 1 and 7/16" (3.7cms) across. It weighs 27.2 grams.
The oval pendant opens smoothly sideways and holds well in its original position. Within is a mirror in excellent condition. Also present on the interior rim is the word 'depose' for patented.
There is a ring at the top attached to a solid bail. It carries a diamond shaped maker’s mark. On the reverse is a faint boar’s head French hallmark for 800-900 quality silver.
The pendant has wonderful, repoussé design of mistletoe, a favourite motif of the Art Nouveau period. The design is replicated on the back.
This stunning piece is in excellent antique condition. These items are getting increasingly difficult to find and this one is particularly beautiful.
It comes to you carefully presented in a gift box.
