1920s Art Deco Japanese Lusterware NORITAKE Porcelain Bonsai Tree Powder Box. 2 pieces..decoration is on top piece which slips over unglazed slightly smaller lower half. These powder boxes are among the most sought after of Noritake designs and Collectibles. The most sought after era of Noritake Lusterware porcelain is the mid 1920s art deco period designs conceived of by designers in the USA but executed by the fine porcelain makers and painters in Japan. This design, a gorgeous hand painted brilliant electric orange and multicolored bonsai tree is detailed yet simple in tone and mood. These art deco designs are the opposite diametrically to 'busy' grandmotherly designs of many other kinds of porcelain from the era. Stylized, sophisticated clean lined and sought-after! This example has the early CHERRY BLOSSOM marking, and the rear surface is glazed basic white, while the front is lustrous glimmering lusterware with painted detail accomplished by hand painted techniques. Approximately 2.75 inches in circular diameter Approximately .33" thick. Excellent vintage condition.
