Here is an unsigned oil on board portrait of a young man in attire which would point to the 17th century. What is noteworthy is the artist’s skill in rendering lifelike detail in the sitter’s face and in his skill in rendering the hands in the correct detail and proportion to make them seem lifelike. These features become focal points as they are highlighted from the dark background and the sitter’s frock.
The panel measures 8” by 10” and 12” by 14 ½ “in the gilded, wood composition frame. The paint surface shows some minor spots of paint loss but all in all is in a very good stable condition. The work is room ready to hang.
