This charming French Coromandel box is from the Louis Philippe period (1830 - 1848). It is in a simple yet elegant style, without the elaborate decoration of the preceding period. The box is done in coromandel wood and is in good condition for its age. The top has an inlaid oval of mother of pearl and a delicate forged iron handle. The escutcheon around the key hole is also of mother of pearl. It is lined in dark rose and green raw silk of a later date. There are four dainty ball feet. The inside is very clean and odor free. The box shows signs of use as follows: there are some nicks to the side and back and the top has some very minor abrasions. The key works and is present.
Measurements are: 7 1/2" by 3 1/8" and 2 3/8" tall.
