This Le Verrier's box is both decorative and practical. It has many uses and is also very attractive. The top of the heavy box depicts the image of the Chasses of Assurbunipal, which are clay tablets that were found in 1853 in Mesopotamie. They are currently housed in the British Museum. The scene on top of this box is a copy of one of these. The box is sound and signed as shown. The condition is good both inside and out and the hinges work well.
Measurements are: 6 3/8" by 3 7/8" and 2 3/8" tall, including the four ball feet.
