This vizagapatam box came with us from France. It originated in India, where during the British reign these boxes were produced. The box has a very delicate inlay around all the edges, which has been decorated with ink. The wood is most likely sandalwood, which has its own fragrance which is still present. The box has a lock that also has a side mechanism, but it is no longer working. The piece has some signs of use, namely one corner of the lid has a missing chip with a corresponding sliver missing from the body of the corner below it. See last photo. Otherwise the box is in great condition, very presentable and clean. It has great presentation appeal.
Measurements are: 10 1/4" by 4 1/2" and 3 7/8" tall.
