This unique French piece is somewhat hard to describe: it's first feature is a stunning portrait of a lady dressed in the fashion of the mid 19th century. Then you see the frame, which is a piece of marble overlaid with an ormolu rim, which has a shimmery celluloid border incorporated. The print is not under glass. The marble is backed by a metal backing which is covered in maroon leatherette. The overall effect is very charming. There are a few condition issues: the print (there is pixelation) is done on heavy paper, which shows some signs of age. There is a small puncture and there are several creases. The marble is remarkably intact with just a few very small nicks consistent with age.
Measurements are: 11 1/4" by 8" and 5/8" thick. Weight is 3 1/2 lbs.
