This French pewter urn is a true piece of art. The craftsmanship of the repousse work is great. The piece is signed A. Villiers and it was made in Paris. I have not been able to find other work by this artist. I believe this is a funeral urn for ashes, but it could also be used as a decorative piece. The lid is loose, but I will include some museum wax to secure it in place if requested. This will hold the lid tight on the urn. The urn and lid are decorated with garlands and flowers and on two sides there are military regalia in the shape of a drum and two horns. The bottom is marked with L'Etain Francais, Paris and A V for the artist. Measurements are: 14 1/2" tall and 4 1/2" at the largest diameter. This is a fairly heavy piece.
