Fernand Weil was active in the first half of the 20th century specializing in impressionistic landscapes.
This well balanced composition depicts a lovely rivers edge view. The eye follows the person walking along the path, past the house and over the bridge which connects the other half of the work. The ochre coloring of the structures blends nicely with the greens and browns of the landscape. This is rural France in the summer.
The oil on board measures to sight 6.5” by 9.0” and 10” by 13” in the gilt, wood composition period frame. The panel shows some minor abrasions in the right area of the sky but overall is in very good condition. The frame shows minor losses to the gesso layer on three corners.
