Antique French Inlaid Wood Box, monogram G F W: this box has seen some life but is clearly the work of a talented French craftsman (Ebeniste) who worked in the end of the 19th century. The box has the initials G F W inlaid in lighter wood in the top, flanked by two horizontal diamonds to anchor it. The front of the box has an interesting closure, the button has to be pushed sideways to open the latch. The corners of the box are uniquely mitered with a round piece, giving it extra style. The box has been relined in purple velvet. The box and lining are in very good condition, there are a few very small use signs to the wood consistent with age, no major defects.
Measurements are: 10 5/8” by 6 1/8” and 4” tall.
