Rare Antique Glass Inkwell with Porcelain Insert and Bakelite Top and dip Pen: this inkwell is especially interesting for the collector. The glass base is marked “Chelsea no 1, Patent applied for” and it has a very unique porcelain insert with a small lip on one end that fits exactly in the glass base. The base has a small opening in front where a quill or dip pen can rest in between letters. The top has three notches where more pens can rest. I have not been able to find out anything about the maker or an inkwell like it: it is very rare. The condition of this inkwell is very good, no chips cracks or fleabites, the only flaw is the ink staining on the porcelain insert. The dip pen is mother of pearl and gold with an Aiken & Lambert nib. The gold is not marked but usually these were 14K.
Measurements: 3 ½” x 3 ½” and 1 ¾” tall.
