This demi-lune rose marble console would look great in an entryway or foyer. I can see it with a gilded mirror above and floral arrangements on top. The marble and gilded beech wood base is in remarkable condition. I do believe the base has an additional coat of gold paint, it is the way they came. The console dates to the first half of the 20th century. Construction is very sound and the marble is in remarkable condition. No chips or cracks. There were some very faint scratches that disappeared with marble cream.
Console tables come to us from French furniture designs of the 18th century. Originally, they were small, half-moon shaped tables fastened to the wall at counter height with a “console”, which is a little curved bracket. Sometimes these special little tables had front legs to make it look like it was free-standing. Eventually, they did become free-standing, still with the half-moon shape, or sometimes a small rectangular shape. There are two of these available, this listing is for one.
Measurements are: 22” by 10 ¼” top; height is 22”.
