The sculptor Chuck Dodson often used his wife and dancer as his model. He was known for his nudes and semi erotic sculpture. They were cast in a unique material developed by the artist in small editions, often on special order. His home was famous as a haunt for local artists and he was a local character as well as an artist who supported himself with his own work.
This piece has a different feel, as the figure is completely covered up. It came as part of a trio, with two other sculptures. I kept this one as it has a signature that is barely readable. It also has some damage to the paint, which has been repaired. Measurements are height 18”, largest diameter 8”. Condition is good with paint repair as noted.
Dodson died in the mid-1980s - from artist’s estate - major building commissions in Miami Beach including the mosaics at the Orange Bowl. His work is starting to rise in price since I first obtained this piece, always a good sign for art.
