This book appears to be the diary of a young girl, who writes about the homecoming of her cousin, Nathaniel Starbuck, who has been to China. He brings tea and then proceeds to teach her family to make it. The story is rather simplistic, what is however fascinating is the way the book is put together. It is resembling a diary, with pen written words and absolutely fantastic illustrations and illuminations by Water Tittle, a listed artist with a reputable track record. The book is dated 1907 and the Nataniel Starbuck mentioned thus is not related to or the same as the fabled star of more recent writers. Another interesting point is that the book bears the handwritten name of Clarinda Starbuck-Boardman 1960.
The book is in good condition for a book over 100 years old, with some bumping to the top and bottom of the spine and corners. The pages are clean and the binding is tight. There is no odor. Again, the illustrations and illuminations are what makes this book such a delight.
