This dish is just a charming example of what the Italians call Majolica. The name stems from the island of Majorca, where the pottery originated. These days it is made in several parts of Italy, with separate names. The older dishes are actively collected.

This dish is quite old and has some very faint crazing, which is very common for this type of pottery at this age. It will make a great presentation for a hostess with some chocolate dipped strawberries or other candies. The dish is in the shape of a leaf (may be fig), and is adorned with two acorns that are molded on top, much in the Majolica fashion. It measures 12" by 71/2" and is 1" high. The bottom is marked Italy and has a number. It is free from cracks or chips.
