This unique Swedish Empire Mirror from the first quarter of the 19th century features classic neo-classic design motifs. The gold-painted hemisphere has a granulated trim with a pale blue background in which a lyre surrounded by acanthus leaves has been applied. The classic columns which trim the sides are of gold painted wood and gesso roman head moldings on the base with acanthus capitals, which are supported by a blue painted panel with applied acanthus decoration. This mirror is quite a decorating statement: it provides light and extra dimension to any space it occupies, as well as being a true unique piece.
The mirror is 40 ¾" in length and 22 1.2" wide. The top hemisphere is detachable and stabilized by a two mortised posts. The sides of the top hemisphere show two cracks which have been repaired. Overall the piece is structurally sound. The glass is not original to the rest of mirror.
