This painting invokes a certain amount of awe for this formidable lady. The painting is French Provincial School, very well painted, especially the lace and intricately woven gold chains. She has a powdered wig, alabaster skin so prized at the time, and a look that jumps off the canvas.
The painting is oil on canvas, which has been laid down on masonite board. The painting has been retouched around the edges and the frame has been reattached. It is not signed.
