Here is a 16" Sophia Smith china lady doll with deep pink luster complexion, brown eyes, long lender china lower arms with spoon hands and china lower legs with bright blue low heel boots. The doll has center parted hairdo with 10 chin length cork screw curls around her head. she has fine single stroke black brows, brown eyes with out high light dots, orange red lid lines, nose and eye accents and small closed red mouth with turned up corners in the Kister manner. Blush is even. Head and plate are 4.5" tall and 4' across shoulder to shoulder. The head has 3 extraneous black spots of paint under the glaze and a little pit on the right check. They are in the making flaws. There are no chips or hairlines. She has wonderful glazed bright blue boots with low heels, black at the top and black tassels at the top front. Legs have pink garters tied under the knees. Lower legs are white glazed china. There is a little glaze flake to the back of one boot , otherwise legs are without damage. Her long slender lower glazed china arms are creamy white. Hands are spoon shaped and lightly cupped. They are free of damage. Her linen body is hard stuffed with cotton batting or similar. It is probably a replacement done in the 1930's.
Her clothing is lovely and may be original. All clothing is hand stitched. The dress is particularly nice and picks up the color of her boots. Bodice is lined with natural linen. The hem is faced with brown glazed linen. The doll is attributed to A.W. Kister and dates to 1850-60.
