Here is a primitive 19th Century smith made tin rattle with 8 tin bells that have suspended turquoise glass beads as clappers. The tin rattle is hammered and crimped it has a hollow tin rod through the center of the rattle topped with a wood finial and inserted into a turned wood handle with whistle end. The rattle dates to mid 19th century and is in good condition. It is an unusual and appealing primitive piece and is an nice addition to a collection of American childhood items or as an accessory for a larger early cloth or wax doll.
