Here is a fine early 19th century whale oil chamber lamp with saucer base and finger holder. The lamp has a screw out burner with one wick holder. It is stamped on the base "R Gleason". The lamp is 6" tall and 5" across the base. It has a very nice surface with no dents or disfiguring scratches. This is a dainty lamp with pleasing lines. Roswell Gleason worked in Dorchester Massachusetts from 1822 to 1871. He made a variety of pewter products including lighting devices.
