Here is an impressive 23 inch tall 1850's Kestner china shoulder head lady with classic face and profile, light pink tint, exposed ears, black hair with center part pulled back from her face into a smooth coiled bun. The doll has brush strokes around her face, corn flower blue eyes with darker blue outline and white dot, black liner and one stroke brows, red lid line, red nose and eye ovals and closed red mouth with white line between the lips and up turned corners. Head and plate are 5.5" tall and 5+" shoulder to shoulder. Plate has 3 sew holes on each side. There are rubs /wear to the hair and bun as shown. Head and plate are free of hairlines or repairs. The doll is on an early commercial linen body with what appears to be the original leather arms with stitched mitt hands. The linen upper arms may have replaced and they are thick and a bit out of proportion with the lower arms. They make it hard to remove the dolls dress without damaging it. Other wise the body is intact and in sturdy condition. The doll wears an antique red tiered linen gown lined in glazed brown linen. . The dress has stress pulls on the lower bodice. It opens down the front and fastens with hooks and eyes. Under neath is a lace/net fichu to fill in the neckline, linen petticoat, linen pantaloons and leather slippers. There is a note pinned under the dress identifying the doll as an early pink tint China with "1871 Chicago Fair" in old ink on the other side.
This is a great early doll. She is attractive and shows beautifully seated in an antique child's chair
