Here is a 4 &3/8" across and 1" thick chip carved wood butter stamp featuring a cow with horns and leafy branches. The butter stamp has a deep chip carved pie crust edge,Inside is a narrow circular ridge and inside that is a chip carved border . . This stamp is thicker than most. The stamp is carved in one piece with a mushroom shaped handle. There is a 1" long age shrinkage crack just above the cows haunches going from the rim to through the 2nd leaf. There is a use chip on the edge opposite the cows head.The stamp has a dry untouched surface. It was bought at an estate dispersal sale of a farm in Lower Alloways Creek, Salem County NJ over 20 years ago. It was well used and has character. It dates to the last half of the 19th century.
