Here is a very nice 15" Kestner bisque head doll incised "made in // E. Germany 9." with a face of a Kestner 143. The doll has fine bisque, painting and modeling.Her head is free of rubs and visible chips or hairlines. Her plaster pate has not been removed. The head was examined with the wig & pate intact. This doll has brown sleep eyes,painted lashes on top & bottom lids, original lid finish and brown multi-stroked brows. Her lovely wig is a wonderful pale gold blond mohair wig with bangs and turned under ends. It is nice & full. She is on a great chunky body with wonderful original finish. There is some wear and cracking around the neck well. Hands & fingers are intact and hand finish is good. The body has a paper store label from G.A Schwarz Philadelphia. (This store was in business from the 1870's to WW1 at 1006 Chestnut Street). The label has some loss. The doll wears hand stitched linen slip and pantaloons trimmed with white work. She has cream silk like stockings held up by a ribbon around her waist, white leather antique shoes, old white linen dress that may be machine stitched. The stitches are tiny, fine and even and a apron like over dress. Kestner bisque head doll marked only with size numbers were made prior to 1892. This doll has a wonderful pert little face, desirable cabinet size and overall fine condition.
