A size 2 Bebe Mascotte with huge blue glass eyes & long painted lashes, feathered, arched ash blond brows, full rose-colored closed mouth with outlined bee stung upper lips, even blushed cheeks & pierced ears. Doll has poured bisque head with fine pale bisque. Head is incised M // 2. Doll is 11.5" tall. Head was lighted & reveals no hairlines or repairs. Earring holes are free of chips.
Doll has a wood & composition Jumeau Medaille D'or stamped body with straight wrists. Body has typical pinkish tone finished body with no loss to fingers or toes.
Doll has original cork pate, antique blond wig, vintage dress & under garments, antique pink open weave stockings & old French Bebe shoes.
This little doll has a piquant little face with features that are just a little more than other dolls of this mold. Eyes are a little bigger, lashes are longer, and mouth is fuller & more bee stung.
Bebe Mascotte was a trade name registered for bisque head dolls by the firm of May Freres in 1890. The doll was articulated and came in sizes 1-12. Jumeau made the heads & bodies for the early dolls, and they are found with Jumeau stamped bodies. Doll has some little paper notes tucked under her skirt & pinned from a previous owner. A very sweet cabinet size French doll circa 1890.
