French Pandora Doll, 1915-18; Original Clothing Tagged "88 Vivandiere"
The French Pandora Dolls were made in Paris between 1915 and 1918 in a workshop under the direction of Mme. Leverrier. The dolls were created by Mlle. Valentine Thomson. They are considered fashion dolls of the early 1900's and the original clothing on these dolls are quite extraordinary. This 13-1/2 inch (14-1/2 with stand) Pandora is 100% original dressed in a silk taffeta dress with intricate detail. The bisque is quality and the painting is superb. She has a bisque shoulder head, painted features, long bisque arms and bisque lower legs with molded and painted high heeled shoes and black stockings. I hope the photos allow you to pay close attention to the shape of the hands and the detail in the modeling. She has a human hair wig with coiled braids underneath her wool hat. The body is cloth stuffed with excelsior. Within the cloth upper arms and legs is wire that allows one to pose the doll. A collection of Pandora fashion dolls would be a treasure indeed, although it would be hard to find them. She is on her original wooden stand. No damage and no restoration to this beauty.
