23-1/2 Inch Life-size Antique Porcelain Bust of Lady, Magnificent!
The beauty in this piece lies in, not only the size and quality, but in the depth and awesome detail in the modeling. Photographs do not do this piece justice. You have to see and feel the porcelain to appreciate the fine work that went into this gorgeous porcelain bust of a beautiful lady. The piece is early and unmarked. The lady has ultra pale bisque, lightly blushed cheeks, shadowed eyelids, intaglio eyes with molded lids that protrude out and over her eyes with heavy outlining underneath There is a multitude of tiny teeth between her slightly parted and faintly colored lips. Her golden hair is modeled with extreme detail in each lock. The blue scarf on her head is highly textured. The white portion of her clothing has a textured design and tiny gold beading. She has an earring on her right ear that is identical to the gold hanging ornament on her neck, but the left ear does not have one and it is possible that it was broken off. There are two small dots, one on her ear and one on the side of her face, that appear to be where the earring was attached. There are a few inherent firing lines, one on the floral designed part of her clothing in the front. These manufacturing firing lines are common in these large, heavy pieces. The corner of the marble-like pedestal has an unpainted repair and there are a couple of very tiny chips along the edges of the pedestal foot. None of the foregoing imperfections are distracting or even noticeable unless you are looking for them. This is an extraordinary figural that is almost two feet tall. It is also a heavy piece due to the size and to the ornate pedestal and metal base to which it is attached. We will ship Fed Ex Ground, insured. It will be shipped double boxed with layers and layers of bubble wrap and packing peanuts.
This is an early unmarked piece, probably 1860's Considering the style of the extremely ornate clothing with the use of beading and gold luster, as well as a decorative marble-like pedestal and metal base, I would attribute it to a French manufacturer.
