This is a French-type papier mache doll. Circa: 1835-1850. She has the bald head that is painted black under what looks to be her original human hair wig that is styled with the drooping side curls, a braid across the top of her head and braids stitched in a bun on the back. She is a shoulder head doll on an antique muslin fashion type body with separately stitched fingers, tiny waistline and flared hips, all similar characteristics of a fashion body. I suspect her original pink kid fashion body was destroyed early in her long life and someone back then made her replacement body. She is also wearing hand stitched leather ankle boots, a camisole top, half slip lace trim pantaloons, all antique and handmade. Her clothing is vintage but not antique. They look pretty on her and are in good condition. This lady has a beautiful finish to her face and I suspect it has had some light surface cleaning. Her black pate and shoulder plate have had some touchup paint. Her cheeks are blushed very, very light. She is not perfect but makes a charming display and you can get her at a steal considering what they usually bring.
