This is an interesting doll and one that is not frequently found. The doll is from an old collection that had been on loan to a small South Texas museum. He was partially dressed in an asian silk kimona but they were vintage, not antique. I was told he was made in Germany. The doll has a shoulder head on a stuffed cloth body with composition lower arms and legs. He has slightly slanted eye cuts with brown glass set eyes. There are upper and lower painted lashes. The slightly tinted closed lips have a darker accent line between them. The color of the doll is a reddish and darker flesh color with lightly blushed cheeks. The eyebrows are feathered almost in a straight line across the brow area to give him a stern look. The lower composition legs are stout and are covered in stockings. The upper arms are covered in a stockinette fabric. The torso part is covered in oil cloth or leatherette. The paper mache head does not have a pate opening except for a small hole at the top. He is wearing an interesting homemade wire and mesh fabric hat with some braiding across the front and a fabric circle that was stitched to fit the top back of his head. Long strings of beading fall from the hat. There is a strand of glass beads around his neck. He has on a pair of old silk underpants (shredding) and a pair of hand sewn oriental style shoes. What clothing and other items are on the doll are not original but I will leave them on him.
Condition: The shoulder plate has been restored in some fashion but it could be done more professionally. The seams on the side of the head have been re-enforced and there is a small hole where the neck and shoulder plate join on one side. His face needs cleaning.
