This is a hard plastic nun doll that was custom dressed by Sister Mary Nicholas, with Immaculate Heart of Mary Order who was a nun at the Convent for Ignatius Church in Kingston, PA when the seller of these dolls was a young girl. There was also mention of Marywood College in Scranton, PA but I forget how it was referenced. She had close ties to the Sister Mary Nickolas and the Sister dressed the doll in the 1950’s for the young girl in a manner identical to the way she was dressed herself, down to the crucifix and other metals that hung on her garment. She is wearing black shoes, cotton hosiery and black cotton under pants. The doll is beautiful with bright color and blue eyes. I am not Catholic so my wording may not be entirely correct but the provenance is there. The doll stands 19-1/2 inches. Her habit is made of navy blue silk and her head is covered in black cotton. The work is extremely professional.
This doll came from one family who had several mint condition, some in their boxes, hard plastic dolls that had been safely stored in their home since they were purchased new. The family member for whom they were purchased was not interested in them so they sold the dolls to me for placement in collectors’ homes. I totally enjoy getting dolls in this condition, with no play signs and still in mint condition.
