I once owned an original Nursing Bru that was contained in this type of baby sleeper or saque. I will describe it as being the envelope type of sleeper for a baby doll because it has the pouch into which you slide the baby and a pillow like padding on the upper section where the doll's head would be. This one is very old, probably late 1800's or earlier. It is factory made of cotton pique which has a thick waffle texture. There is pleated cotton organdy trim with cotton lace edging all around the saque. Blue silk ribbon is threaded through a wide piece of eyelet trim across the top of the bottom pouch and also down the front of the bottom pouch for decoration. The top has the protective padded head rest. The entire saque is lined in heavy cotton on the back. This example is quite large and will hold a baby up to 18 inches long comfortably. I believe this item came from France. It has not been washed or cleaned and has some age spots, mostly on the cotton organdy trim. There are a few places where the lace edging has come loose but this can be easily fixed with a needle and thread. The length of the saque (excluding the ruffled trim) is 21-1/2 inches. It is 9-1/4 inches wide.
