A fine and rare 18th century French tulipwood knife box with chamfered corners, bail handles at the side, ring handle on top and intricate shaped escutcheon or lock plate. Architectural shape is very pleasing as is the light blond wood in a harlequin pattern of opposing grains. Lined on the fitted interior with velvet - perfect for storing extra cutlery near the table in the dining room. Measures 11 7/8" x 7 3/4" x 6 3/4". Provenance Pieter Hoogendijk, Holland.
