This beautiful hand carved Victorian shell cameo is of the goddess Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers and the season of spring. Flora's facial features, flowers and the tendrils of her hair are all carved in fine detail.
The cameo is bezel set in 14K yellow gold and is stamped something I can not read (maybe 95 NA) and 14K on the back. There is a hinged bail at the top of the setting so it can be worn as a pendent or folded down when worn as a pin. The pin has a tube hing that was used until 1890 so we know this cameo is before that time. The clasp has been changed at some point to a roll over safety clasp. (notice the jeweler bent the pin to accommodate the higher new clasp)
The setting measures 1 7/8" tall and is 1 7/16" wide, the cameo measures 1/8" smaller so the frame does not take away from the fine carving. The bail measures 1/4" and the total weight is 8.7 grams.
This cameo is a great addition to your jewelry collection
Condition is excellent.
